#37 - Job Application 101

As a recruiter, I am always exposed to many kind of personalities and resumes. Trust me, reading resumes can be a source of entertainment.

Don't get me wrong. As much as I appreciate good resumes, there are still people who are taking resume for granted. No matter how good you are in your work but if you don't translate everything into your resume, people won't notice you.

So, make you sure you really put an effort to produce a good resume.

But then again. Good resume must also come with good attitude. Here's some tips/do's/don'ts:

1) If you are sitting in front of your boss or a very nosy colleague, do let us know that it's not convenient to talk. Or maybe you are in a train or in a public place, let us know! Suggest a good time for us to call you back. It's ok. We won't strike off your name from our list. There are a few incidents that we have to shout because the candidates cannot hear and still insisting to continue the conversation. Do you want the whole wide world to know how much you are earning?

2) Let me tell you one thing. If you are approached by a recruiter or a headhunter, do not be afraid. You don't have to pay them anything to have a discussion with them. In fact, they are giving you the opportunity for a career growth. They are not selling you products or services. So, don't be afraid or be very annoyed. If you are not looking out, tell them so. If you are rude, there's a possibility that we won't consider you in the future at all. Regardless how good you are.

3) When you applied for a position, make sure you read through the job description. Know your strength, skills and qualification. If you are a Civil Engineering graduate, do not apply for a Pharmaceutical position. Don't laugh. It happened. Really makes us want to strangle somebody.

Regardless to many interesting personalities, I do find joy in my work. My friends keep coming back to me and ask for tips or any HR matters. Makes me feel important. Glad I could help them and to you who happen to read my blog.

Till then.

#36 - Another Snapshot

This is what I've been up to:

1) My friend AAK organized a surprise birthday party for me which was so cool. Although I kind of sense something but it was so sweet of her. The best part, I got to celebrate with my twinnie.

2) The next day, I got indigestion problem and been vomiting every time I tried to eat something.

3) My office also organized a birthday party for February babies. I got a Charles & Keith's handbag and a necklace from Diva. Yes, at least I can strike off one item from my wishlist.

4) Went back to En. Suami's hometown and do nothing. Bliss.

5) Went for an interview on Monday. I was there from 9am until 1pm. IMAGINE! Had to do 3 tests including maths test. Had to wait for an hour before my face to face interview. Was so close of leaving the office when the officer called me in. But after the interview, I decided to withdraw my application because I'm not cut out to do heavy duty travelling.

#35 - Singapore Trip in Snapshot

Here's Singapore trip in a snapshot (cause I'm just lazy to write everything):

1) Despite being on a budget holiday, we spent 2 and half hours in ION Orchard, a mall full of designer boutiques.

2. I read the map wrong so we went to entirely different direction to get to Hard Rock Singapore. Everyone was already on their verge of crankiness but after having by the roadside ice cream, aal iz well. Later, En. Suami took the map away from me as he said I cannot read the map *roll eyes*

3. Our quest of finding the merlion almost didn't come through because we felt that it was so far. Thank God, we persevered. So Hello Merlion a.k.a The Confused Lion

4. Told my friend F, the story behind merlion. Merlion came about during Hercules era where there were a lot of mixed creatures (mermaid + lion, man+ horse) and she totally bought the story. My friend, the innocent/gullible soul.

5. Will try to avoid MRTs during peak hours. Everyone was rushing and I felt tired just by looking at them.

6. Went to Universal Studios. It was great and amazing experience. Hope I can visit the one in Florida.

7. Rode the most of the rides. Personally, I was so proud of myself. Insya Allah, we shall return and this time around with Express Pass.

8. Can't wait for future trips with my beloveds. They are bunch of cranky people that I love so much.

Till then.

#33 - Singapore Trip Day 2

Morning of the wedding. We left our room and caught the 8am bus to Bedok. The traffic was quite good so in 20 minutes, we have reached my friend's house. She asked us to come by 9am so we can join her entourage to the mosque.

So while waiting for the bride to get ready, we had some breakfast prepared by the host.

At around 9.15, the glowing bride came down and all ready to board the bus and head to the mosque.

The solemnization started exactly at 10am. Everything went well. Alhamdulillah. I was so happy for my friend. She had gone through a lot for the past couple of years and now things are slowly looking good for her.

I wish her a wonderful and blessed marriage.

After the solemnization, we headed back to the house. We were served with nasi minyak and kuih muih. Since we already had breakfast, we decided to wait for our other friends so we can have our lunch together.

After some crankiness and camwhoring, we excused ourselves as our newly joined friends need to check in at their hotel which was at Balestier Road.

Once we reached the room, all of us took the opportunity to freshened up. Me and En. Suami changed to more casual clothes. At around 5.30pm, we took a bus and headed to Bugis Street.

OH MY GOODNESS, the stuff that they have there. Clothes are like $10 each. I would be crazy enough not to buy anything so I ended up with 3 tops for $35 ONLY! I was a very happy girl.

After a while, it's time to feed our stomachs. Again, everyone started to get cranky. Hahaha. We walked to Arab St as there is where you can get the best murtabak in town

The murtabak I'm telling you were super delicious and filling too. It's nothing like what find here in KL. Besides murtabak, we had nasi biryani as well. After that, we were back to bunch of cool people not the cranky type of the people.

Since it was already past 10pm and it had been a long day, we called it a night. The rest of the girls took the bus to go back to the hotel while we, the lovebirds, took the MRT.

It's going to be another long day tomorrow so toodles.

#32 - Singapore Trip Day 1

My last trip to Singapore was when I was still in kindergarten and it was a day trip. Obviously, I could not remember a thing. I always try to find time to go there ever since I graduated but time seems not on my side. Plus money too.

So when my Singaporean friend whom I traveled with to Melbourne told me that's she's getting married, I took the opportunity to go to Singapore. Besides, she came all the way for my wedding, I should return the favour.

What makes this trip even more exciting, my fellow BENLians will be joining us as well since they know the bride.

After months of searching the cheapest flights to Singapore, we finally decided to fly with Tiger Airways. If you asked me, I would rather fly with Air Asia. But, it's a bit too expensive since it's quite last minute.

Our flight was on 3rd February at 12pm. My friend was so nice to prepare us directions to get to our hotel from the airport. So from airport we took a bus and it went straight to our hotel. From the bus stop, it was quite a distance to walk but we definitely enjoy the walk.

We stayed at The Fragrance Hotel, Joo Chiat. The facilities were very basic but that's good enough for us as we would be out of the room most of the time.

After we freshened up and performed our prayers, we headed to Bedok to my friend's house. Again, based on my friend's directions, we managed to locate her house. We met with the family and had our dinner there. Around 8, we excused ourselves as we were tired plus we have to get up early next day for her solemnization ceremony.

Once we reached Joo Chiat, the area was quite lively as we expected because of the pubs and karaoke places. There were a lot of Vietnamese restaurants around the area as well as some Malay cafes.

We didn't make any stops as we were already tired. We reached our room, performed our prayer, prepare for tomorrow and get ready to sleep.

I'll update with the Day 2 later.

Till then.

#31: Love Story

The conversation took place in January.

En. Suami: Oh my god, T**y is 29. (Our friend who just had her birthday in January)
Me: I know right. Can't believe it. Oh wait, I'm turning 29 too this February
En. Suami: *smile unknowingly*
Me: Oh my goodness, I'm getting old, I'm getting old
En. Suami: *smile again* Err... never mind.
Me: What? Nak cakap apa?
En. Suami: Takpelah.
Me: Kenapa? Nak cakap yang you married an old lady? (his birthday is in August of the same year)
En. Suami: Ha'ah
Me: Eleh, tak kisah. Marrying an old lady is the in thing right now.

With that, discussion ends.

#30 - Hello

Well hello everyone.

Life has been quite busy and tiring nowadays. But, I'm enjoying it every single moment. Just want to drop by to leave some notes so that everyone knows that I am still alive and kicking.

Just came back from Singapore recently for a friend's wedding and turned our little escapism into our annual BENL trip.

*BENL stands for Bachelor of English Language and Literature

It was fun, fun, fun.

Will blog about it later.

Till then.
